Wave of Tornadoes Sweep the Midwest US

March 3, 2012–Fast moving twisters destroyed homes, downed power lines and tossed vehicles across the Midwestern states of Indiana, Kentucky and Ohio, leaving 23 people dead. This outbreak followed earlier storms that killed 13 people in the South and Midwest two days earlier.

According to the Weather Service tornadoes killed 550 people in the US in 2011, the highest number of fatalities seen in almost 100 years.
